NIROX Presents Good Neighbours x Capitec handmadeAFRICA - SUNDAY, 13 OCTOBER 2024

NIROX Foundation is proud to announce the latest iteration of Good Neighbours, a continuing programme dedicated to connecting the people of Africa through the transformative power of art, culture, and community. Since its inception in 2021, Good Neighbours has celebrated the "Hidden Thread" that binds Africa—a thread that transcends artificial borders, highlighting our shared humanity.

This year, NIROX has partnered with Capitec handmadeAFRICA, bringing an even richer layer of experience to the Good Neighbours programme. This partnership promises a dynamic showcase of African creativity, blending the best in music, food, design, and craftsmanship from across the continent. Good Neighbours x Capitec handmade AFRICA takes place on Sunday, 13 October 2024, offering an immersive experience for all art, music and design enthusiasts.

NIROX is renowned for its commitment to fostering creativity, cultural exchange, and connection to self, others and nature. It serves as a sanctuary for artists, musicians, and creators, providing an unparalleled setting for creative expression and collaboration. As a central facilitator of art, music, and connectivity, NIROX strives to bring together diverse voices from across Africa to create dialogue and celebrate the continent's shared heritage. In doing so, this year’s Good Neighbours is curated and hosted in collaboration with Tawanda Gwasera, this iteration honours Africa’s capacity for creative expression. The programme will include contributions from artists, designers, and musicians from Zimbabwe, Botswana, Nigeria, Eswatini, Morocco, Mozambique, Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa, reflecting the rich diversity of Africa’s creative landscape.

As a key addition to this year’s programme, Capitec handmadeAFRICA will bring a curated retail experience, showcasing the continent’s finest ethically and sustainably produced design. Known for its travelling boutique retail concept, Capitec handmadeAFRICA creates a platform for African designers to connect with new markets, offering visitors an opportunity to explore and purchase unique, collectable pieces of Pan-African craftsmanship. This collaboration highlights the shared vision of both entities to elevate African art, design, and culture on the global stage.

“We are excited to partner with NIROX for this year’s edition of Good Neighbours bringing a sensory explosion of Pan-Africa’s finest design, meticulously selected for its ethically and sustainably produced artistry. This partnership allows us to broaden the scope of what we offer, merging contemporary art and design with the unique experience of live music, art tours and African-inspired cuisine.” says Capitec handmadeAFRICA representative Garreth van Niekerk.

“At a time of global conflict and division, Good Neighbours serves as a powerful reminder that change begins within our communities,” says NIROX Foundation. “By fostering empathy and care, we can transform not only our local surroundings but also contribute to global healing.”

In keeping with Good Neighbours mission of fostering unity and erasing artificial borders. We are excited to introduce TheRedCircle an innovative TEDx Johannesburg initiative that will be offering an inclusive stage for the Good Neighbours event goers to voice their ideas, opinions, and solutions to a myriad of discourses. TheRedCircle is a dynamic, pop-up platform designed to ignite spontaneous, meaningful conversations that transcend borders, encouraging attendees to engage in civic discourse and share diverse perspectives on music, design, poetry, fashion, food, and more.

TheRedCircle is an important addition to Good Neighbours, creating a platform for people from all walks of life to engage in meaningful discussions on the issues that matter most,” says Tawanda Gwasera. “Good Neighbours is more than a music event; it’s a celebration of African artistry. It calls us to come together, recognise the power of connection through our shared experiences, and use that energy to shape a better future. Good Neighbours encourages attendees to embody the spirit of being a ‘Good Neighbour’ – to see the humanity in others, act with empathy and care.”
