Da Capo Announced as Debut Artist for Apple Music’s Inaugural Isgubhu DJ Mix Series

Apple Music has unveiled its highly anticipated Isgubhu DJ Mix series, a new platform dedicated to celebrating the vibrant and ever-evolving African dance and electronic music scene. Leading the charge as the debut cover star is none other than legendary South African DJ and producer Da Capo, a trailblazer in the Afro-House genre.

This announcement, was made at an intimate gathering with industry pioneers at Luxurious Opera bar in Rosebank on August 1, 2025, which marks a significant moment for African music, spotlighting its global influence and cultural richness

Born Nicodimas Sekheta Mogashoa in Seshego, just outside Polokwane in Limpopo province of South Africa, Da Capo is a self-taught musical prodigy who signed his first major recording deal with NH Records at the age of 20. His 2015 Touched EP, released under Soulistic Music, featured the hit “Speed of Sound” with Tresor, cementing his reputation as a global ambassador for Afro-House. Over the past decade, Da Capo’s sound has evolved, blending emotion and storytelling to create music that fosters connection and resonance. “I’m always drawn to emotion and storytelling in sound,” he told Apple Music. “I love the way music can create space for connection.”

We had a one on one with Da Capo celebrating his role as the first DJ to compile the Isgubhu DJ Mix for Apple Music:

Romley:Yo, Da Capo! How pumped were you to be the first to drop the Isgubhu Mix on Apple Music, and what sparked the vibe for this project?

Da Capo: It's an honor to be selected as debut cover star for this project. Afro-house is such a big genre and I was humbled by this opportunity to showcase my storytelling through music.

Romley: What’s the wildest thing about curating a mix that represents the soul of Afro house for a global stage like Apple Music?

Da Capo: Honestly looking for inspiration during a time when you are working on new music, and preparing for a tour. For me, curating this mix was all about storytelling and infusing the new music that speaks to my love for Afro dance and electronic music.

Romley: Walk us through your track-picking process! Any moments where a song just screamed, “I’m perfect for this mix”?

Da Capo: It's a mixture of the old and the new. Blending in the up and coming artist who reach out and share their music with me and transitioning with new music from big Afro dance musicians like Vanco and Kairo.

Romley: Afro house is in your DNA—how did this mix become a love letter to your journey as a DJ. And What’s the one thing you hope fans feel when they blast this Isgubhu Mix—any specific vibe you’re chasing?

Da Capo: I'm hoping to create high vibrations on the dance floors, inspiring the fans to enjoy the new music I've been working on so they can influence the culture and inspire others to love the music as well.

Romley: After slaying this milestone, what’s the next big move for DJ Da Capo? Spill the tea on what’s cooking?

Da Capo: I'm planning to continue showcasing the Afro-House music all over the world. I'm touring Singapore and Indonesia next week, then off to America where I'll be touring Miami and New York. And later I'll be touring whilst enjoying the European summer in Ibiza.

Da Capo’s Isgubhu August 2025 (DJ Mix), available now on Apple Music, is a 58-minute, 10-song journey that encapsulates the spiritual and high-vibrational essence of his artistry
