Colour Your Plate with KOO reality tv show to get South Africans eating more balanced and healthy meals; launches search for next local cooking star
Colour Your Plate with KOO, the latest edutainment reality competition show to launch on local screens this week, aims to start a healthy eating movement amongst South Africans, encouraging them to incorporate more balanced nutrition in their daily diets, all while on the lookout for the country's newest cooking celebrity.
“The pandemic has made South Africans more aware of their health and wellbeing, as well as the importance of eating enough fruit and vegetables daily. KOO products, trusted brands for more than 80 years in South African homes, are sourced locally for sealed-in goodness and nutrition, and our wide range of fruit and vegetable products are available across Mzansi for everyone to enjoy throughout the day," says Edna Mohale, Marketing Director at Tiger Brands.
Colour Your Plate with KOO, a 13-part weekly series, will be broadcast for the first time on SABC 2 from Wednesday, 6th October 2021, at 19h30pm.
Each week the show will feature five amateur chefs particpating in a cook-off to produce a 10 course menu featuring a hero fruit or vegetable and representative of South Africa's culinary heritage.
The contestants’ healthy and balanced meals will be judged by award-winning local celebrity chef, Reuben Riffel, media personality and businesswoman, Basetsana Khumalo and KOO’s Nutritionist Arthur Ramoroka.
The winning chefs from each week's show will go head-to-head in the finale, with one of them claiming the R50,000 prize to use towards their future career as South Africa's newest chef.
“Colour is key to your health, as the colours of fruit and vegetables are often linked to the nutrients, vitamins and minerals they contain. “My advice is always to try eat a combination colours throughout the day, such as peaches and apricots with your porridge at breakfast, red and green vegetables in a salad during lunch, and purple and orange vegetables alongside your starch and protein for dinner. Legumes, such as baked beans, are also packed with fibre, which is essential for digestive wellbeing and to keep you regular," says Arthur Ramoroka, KOO's Nutritionist.
Colour Your Plate with KOO will broadcast every Wednesday evening, starting 6th October 2021, at 19:30 on SABC 2, with repeats every Tuesday morning at 10:00 on SABC 2.
Weekly winners will be interviewed on SABC 3's Expresso Morning Show every Thursday.
