JOHNNIE WALKER CELEBRATES RARITY WITH THE NEW BLUE LABEL SERIES

‘A RARE AND IRREPLACEABLE WHISKY BLEND’

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Johnnie Walker Blue Label unveils its latest series of limited-edition scotch whiskies from a “ghost” distillery that was destroyed by fire more 30 years ago. The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal makes its official South African debut this month.

Handcrafted using just eight of the rarest whiskies from the Johnnie Walker reserves, this marks the third release from the Ghost and Rare series. The series offers a fleeting opportunity to enjoy whiskies from long closed “ghost” distilleries specially crafted to encourage enthusiasts to explore, in a refreshing way, the unique depth of character and flavour of the Blue Label.

To commemorate Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal, Johnnie Walker partnered with four of SA’s rarest talents who echo the message of rarity in their respective industries and whose work and talents are irreplaceable, much like our newest offering. The rare personalities included the likes of award-winning actress, Terry Pheto, restauranteur, David Higgs, fashion and design extraordinaire, Rich Mnisi and the culinary queen, Vicky Crease, who have all pushed boundaries to get where they are in their careers.

South Africa’s Johnnie Walker Senior Brand Manager, Candice Ncgobo, called this “an exciting time” for the brand and its legion of followers. “We first introduced Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare in 2017. It was an inaugural expression in a limited-release series that intended to blend highly valuable ‘ghost’ whiskies with rare malts. Fast-forward to our third instalment, we couldn’t be more thrilled to be revealing the new limited-edition BLUE LABEL GHOST AND RARE GLENURY ROYAL which promises a different palate journey, while maintaining the traditional taste of a perfectly made whisky,” she said.

Whisky aficionados will enjoy a unique palate made up of sumptuous orchard fruits, sweet apple and delicate apricot notes from Glenury Royal. The sensory journey is heightened by creamy toffee and butterscotch from the supposedly long-gone distilleries of Cambus and Pittyvaich. Other rare whiskies from Glen Elgin, Inchgower, Gelnlossie, Cameronbridge and Glenkinchie add waves of vanilla, heather honey and dried fruits that weave through smooth dark chocolate and nutty layers to create a perfectly balanced exploration of this distinctive whisky, making this series the most indulgent yet.

Founded in 1825 by Captain Robert Barclay, a member of the British Parliament and the first man to walk one thousand miles in one thousand hours, the Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal has been – until now - a hidden treasure. Under the watchful eye of Johnnie Walker Master Blender Jim Beveridge and his team of expert whisky makers, this latest limited edition serves as opportunity to explore the smooth and fruity character found in every drop of Johnnie Walker Blue Label. Given the many years of irreplaceable whisky maturing through the rare nature if Glenury Royal, it would be a travesty to miss the experience of this limited edition offering.
