Let's take a step back behind the scenes into the engine room where the production of KZN's most loved breakfast show takes place. Let's catch up with Music compiler/technical producer and events coordinator from Umgababa, South Coast of Durban. Born Sbusiso Mthembu, Dj Flair is a technical producer at Gagasi FM for "The Uprising" which is the biggest, if not baddest morning breakfast show in KZN. He is also a music compiler at the station.
In University, back in 2010, DJ Flair picked up the fundamentals of DJing from a "res mate" and has never looked back. With his determination and passion for music, he taught himself how to produce music. In 2014, Flair produced the song " Sokwenza nje kwaMax" which he gave to DJ Howzin and to his surprise it ended up forming part of the playlist of SABC 1's TV drama Zone14.
In 2016, Flair was a resident DJ on Friday nights with DJ Lesoul on Gagasi FM, a year later when she joined the "Midday shandis" DJ Lesoul brought him along. DJ Flair was offered the opportunity to be an assistant technical producer. He goes on to say, "I carefully carried this opportunity with both hands. I was unpaid for this gig, I took it as my training and poured every ounce of my heart out".
"Being a father of two amazing boys is my biggest motivation, I have to wake up each morning and go do what I love" says DJ Flair.
Progressing through his new avenue, in 2018 Gagasi FM offered DJ Flair a job to be the technical producer for "I love mornings with Mzo".
Whoever said "anything is possible if you work hard and believe it so" wasn't lying.
"I am currently in a space where I work and interact with people I used to admire from a distance, or watch on TV" He said. While enjoying being behind the scenes with progression, anything is possible, such as seeing himself anchor a radio show or producing music with the likes of Mobi Dixon and Moneoa who are artists he would love to work with in future.
Tune into Gagasi FM and catch DJ Flair the
technical producer of " The Uprising" with Felix Hlophe, Njabs Zwane and Khaya Dladla. Gracing the airwaves with his mixes every Friday between 6-9am "with music that will make you lick your speakers".
