Clash of the Choirs SA’s first elimination show leaves audiences and judges breathless

The first challenge of season 4 saw the choirs pay tribute to the Springboks – with a surprise twist ending After two touching episodes of auditions and personal stories,  Clash of the Choirs SA  got down to business as season 4’s first live performance challenge got underway – and it was nothing short of spectacular. All roads in the Mzansi Magic competition show led to Johannesburg, as the nine choirs and their choirmasters prepared a musical feast for audiences and the judges to indulge in. Hosted by DJ Sabby and Bontle Modiselle, the episode featured an uplifting group performance from the choirmasters and their choirs. COTCSA ’s musical director Zadok (whose glittering global CV includes working on the SAMAs and MTV VMAs) set the tone with a timely theme: the choirs had to compose odes to defending Rugby World Cup champions the Springboks. The BBC documentary collection Resistance in a Hostile Environment, from Oscar-winning filmmaker Sir Steve McQueen is now streaming on Showmax.

The omnibus includes  Uprising,  which won the 2022 BAFTA Award for Best Factual Series, and  Black Power: A British Story of Resistance , which was nominated for a 2022 BAFTA for Specialist Factual. Both have 100% critics’ ratings on  Rotten Tomatoes .  The documentaries examine the systemic racial injustice that shaped what it meant to be Black in Britain from the late 1960s to the early 80s, and trace the real-life stories of resistance that inspired McQueen’s five-film anthology series  Small Axe , which won BAFTA and Critics’ Choice awards among many, many others.  As  IndieWire  puts it, “ Small Axe  grew out of a desire to shed light on Black resistance movements in Britain... Mzansi Magic’s emotional fan favourites Mnakwethu and Unefa return for new seasons in July

Two of Mzansi Magic’s reality shows that always grip viewers and get tongues wagging on social media will be back for all new seasons come July. The emotional  Mnakwethu ’s third season will premiere on 5 July at 20h00, while the heart-warming  Unefa ’s second season premieres on 20 July at 20h00. Hosted by  Uthando Nes’thembu  star Musa Mseleku,  Mnakwethu  follows men who need Mseleku’s help in requesting their wives to agree to being in a polygamous marriage – to varying degrees of success.   One of the most talked about shows in South African television,  Mnakwethu  is often filled with tension and emotion, and it sees Mseleku  walking the tightrope between guiding the men towards fulfilling their aims while also helping the women accept what is sometimes a shocking request to them. Also dealing with surprises but of a monetary nature is Unefa, the show that sees unsuspecting people learn that they have an inheritance they did not know about.
