Tickets for the 28th iteration of the South African Music Awards (SAMA), the biggest and most anticipated music calendar event, have officially gone on sale.

This prestigious event that honours the best local music has to offer across over 40 categories  will be held at Sun City on Sunday, 28 August 2022. Fans will also be treated to a dazzling  red carpet experience, electrifying performances and memorable stage appearances. Afro-pop duo Blaq Diamond flew high on the last night of the SAMA26 five night lockdown special

The duo's hit single Ibhanoyi came out tops to take the prestigious Record of the Year award. This is one of the two public voted awards where music fans make their voice heard by choosing from the top 20 songs shortlisted. Last night, rapper AKA won the Music Video of the Year award for Jika featuring Yanga Chief. Dance music maestro Prince Kaybee made a clean sweep scoring major wins in the Album of the Year and Best Dance Album categories. He picked up the Male Artist of the Year earlier in the week to become one of the three most awarded artists of the 2020 edition of SAMA. With three awards, Prince Kaybee is tied with jazz newcomer Ndabo Zulu (& Umgidi Ensemble) who won the Duo/Group of the Year tonight, having already won Newcomer of the Year and Best Jazz Album awards earlier in the week. SAMA26 nominations unearth fresh new gems Marking a seismic shift in local music

A slew of new artists is claiming its place on the SAMA nominations list, while a few old favourites make their presence felt.  Prince Kaybee, already with four nods in the bag from the Record of the Year (ROTY) and Music Video of the Year (MVOTY) categories announced last week, extends his lead with five more. The dance music DJ is in the running for the coveted Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Best Produced Album, Best Dance Album for Re Mmino and Best Collaboration for Fetch Your Life featuring Msaki. His total tally for SAMA26 stands at nine, making him the most nominated this year.  The DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small partnership has yielded great gains with them dominating the Best Collaboration category with three nods featuring them on Akulaleki by Samthing Soweto; Love You Tonight by MFR Souls and Tender Love by Sha Sha.
