UnCancelled by Gareth Cliff and Unathi

Image
Hello, hello, Hi! This past weekend I was going through the YouTube socials on my telly not knowing what to watch, so I was just checking on everything that looked interesting there. I then suddenly remembered a media colleague, Selloane, posted something about Gareth Cliff’s YouTube channel. I searched Gareth Cliff and the interview with Unathi Nkayi came up. And what an interview it was! I used to have a crush on Gareth Cliff, his radio voice and opinions made me think and interrogate my views at all times. I remember I would change between radio stations; I would one minute listen to FiveFM and the next minute I’m on Umhlobo Wenene. I did that with Gareth and Dj Fresh and CK August (Mthobeli) of Umhlobo Wenene. Those three really did radio good.   Back to the Unathi, the entire podcast is candid, this is the very first time we hear and see Unathi being this honest and not showing any signs of constraint. We all know that Unathi knows how to best give the sweet persona, but thi

For an artist who was accustomed to live performances and public interaction almost daily, staying home suddenly became everyone’s reality.   And so was born the beginnings of the INDOOR, a 10-track ‘Mixtape’ that he made together with some of his industry friends.   Drawing inspiration from some of the greats that have inspired & shaped him in various ways over the years, the project is a creative and emotional expression and interpretation of what he hears when listening to the iconic songs featured on the project.   Having finally completed the almost two-year-long project early this year, J decided to showcase the project live to an indoor audie

‘Bel-Air’ series: Will Smith gets in “one little fight” again but it isn’t a joke

Image
When Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, on the night he won his first Academy Award, as Best Actor for  King Richard , people joked online that this was not the first time Smith had “got in one little fight” and that next he’d be moving in with his auntie and uncle in Bel-Air - a reference to the setup of the iconic 90s sitcom  The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air . Based on Smith’s own life, this was the show that first made him a mega-star.  Bel-Air , now available to binge on Showmax, reimagines the Emmy-nominated sitcom, and Smith’s journey from the hard streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air - ‘flipped-turned upside down’ as a drama, not a comedy.  Rotten Tomatoes  listed  B el-Air  among their Most Anticipated Shows of 2022, with  LA Times  saying “ Bel-Air  brilliantly reimagines a comedy classic” and  Empire Magazine  hailing the series as “a bold reimagining that maintains the essence of the original show while exploring important social themes from an
